D1 Daily linked up with Cameron to discuss how D1 has made him feel stronger than ever. Here is that conversation, edited for clarity:
How did you get into D1 Training?
I had just moved to Beaverton and was getting a coffee. D1 was right next to the coffee shop so I walked in and had a chat with one of the trainers. My wife and I set up an appointment and joined the very next week.
What was your strength training like before D1?
Honestly there wasn’t much of a regular strength training program before this. The last few years was filled with being a new parent to a 3 year old and my fitness had definitely taken a back seat. I was out of shape and not feeling strong until I joined D1.
You said you supplement your personal training with D1’s group classes. How often do you go?
My wife and I have a training session with our PT once a week, then we go to group classes about 3 times a week on top of that. We get into the gym 3-4 times a week each all together.
I saw you hit 450 on the trap bar? How did that feel to accomplish it?
This was pretty cool. We were at the end of a cycle with our trainer and we were getting new Max numbers. My goal was to clear 350lb, and I did that easily. So we just kept adding weight to it to find the max. I never expected to hit 450. What's wild is we could have gone higher, but we ran out of space on the trap bar to add more weight. It was really an unexpected moment that showed how much stronger I have gotten in just 4 months since joining in July.
You mentioned this is the strongest you’ve felt in your 36 years. How has D1 helped you accomplish that?
The coaching has been a huge factor. I really enjoy the style of training and the coaches at our location do such a great job of making it feel like a community. So in general it’s just fun to be around our group. We worked to set goals, and my PT has a great plan to help me and my wife reach them. It’s been great to also have some nutrition guidance, and learn that it’s much more than just having a protein shake. Also, let’s be real, D1 is an elite gym that comes with a financial investment, and I don't want my money to be wasted.
What’s your next fitness goal you want to accomplish with D1?
My next goal is to clear 250lb on the bench. I'd also like to become more explosive with more movements. And a fun side project is holding a full front lever.
